Indigo and Denim
There’s so much detail to capture in elephants. I love to get as much detail as I can, these two are created on a textured canvas using modelling gesso, the contrast between the rough trunk and the smooth ivory tusks adds a tactile quality to each piece. Denim is soft and serene on a denim blue background, while Indigo is moody and dramatic, painted in darker tones on a deep indigo base. I had the amazing experience of feeding them and was surprised at the suction they have to hold a carrot to transfer from trunk to mouth. The trunk was so rough to the touch too. Great to get up close with them
